Why did you choose Dazzle Printing?
I had my heart set on perfect bound instead of saddle stitch binding for the magazine. Most print shops I called quoted a much higher price for the short run I needed to start with. Working with Dazzle allowed me to print 100 perfect bound copies for the first issue within budget, while having the aesthetic I was going for in the design.
How was your experience with Dazzle Printing?
I had no prior experience with creating a magazine or with printing. Renee walked me through every step – sometimes twice, with patience, knowledge, and answers. I felt comfortable enough to say “I don’t know the terminology, but this is what I want to do. How does that work?” I had to make several corrections, and Renee and the team at Dazzle were supportive and helpful. It felt like I had a team on my side that communicated really well.
How do you feel about the quality and timeliness of your project?
When I got the first proof print, I did the happy dance! It looked better than I had envisioned it. The printing was so good, the binding was exactly what I wanted. I was traveling at the time it shipped and Renee sent the proof to the city I was staying in. The proof got there before I did!
Would you use Dazzle Printing again? Why?
I will absolutely use Dazzle Printing again. I started out feeling intimidated by the scope of this project, and Dazzle made it so easy. Step by step, they taught me what was needed on their end to create a great product AND it was the most affordable option I could find. It was such a positive experience; I can’t imagine going anywhere else for printing.
Is there anything you wish had been different?
The only thing I wish I had done differently was to print the magazine name on the spine. I wasn’t sure how to create that in the design software at the time. The look and feel of the first issue surpassed my expectations. Dazzle was fun to work with and it has given me the confidence to keep going and create issues.
